New York City

THE PEOPLE AMONG THE NOISE

It may seem obvious, but if you want some peace and quiet, don’t come to New York.

It can be such an overwhelming place: the constant rush, the billboards, the tourists, the broad avenues, the noise… God, the noise. I think New York might be the noisiest place I’ve ever been.
Even during a shoot from a helicopter, it doesn’t stop.

But once you start finding your way a little bit, and learn to filter out some parts to stop from going nuts, you notice other things.

How there are places outside Manhattan, like Williamsburg or Greenpoint, that are a bit more laid back.

How every neighbourhood seems to be like a little village, with its own culture and little gems.

How things like race, religion or origin seem to matter much less than in other places in the US and even at home.

There are a lot of things you can learn to love about New York City.
